According to official statistics only 0,7% cases reviewed in Russian court receive non-guilty verdict. The sentence of acquittal requires more bureaucratic paperwork and the judges giving the verdict are often suspected of receiving bribes. In a flawed system lawyers and people trying to protect themselves can only count of minimizing the punishment. |
