FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) in our digital era. Using our phones we’re constantly confronting people with the greener grass on the other side of the phone. And even though mine is pretty green, there’s always somebody who just mowed their lawn. Source: http://www.overdose.am/2015/04/03/merels-mind-fomo-in-our-digital-era/ |

King’s Day is probably the most crowded day of the year in Amsterdam. All we want is gallivant down the road, enjoy sun, sip our drink, end up at an unexpected good party, being thankful for our dear friend Willem-Alexander and eat cake with his face on it. Right?
But appearances can be deceiving; we’ll be wrestling our way through the crowd, get lost, and it’ll take two hours to go from Rembrandt Square to Dam Square. We have to watch people throw up in the canals, and at 4PM we’re already too drunk to see the difference between Willem-Alexander and ourselves. Oh jolly jolly King’s Day!
Especially for this kind of situations I drew the map of Amsterdam with King’s Day’s chaos on it. Print it, and I’m pretty sure you’ll find your way perfectly and won’t get in any messy affairs. Source: http://www.overdose.am/2014/04/24/merels-mind-kings-day-chaos/ |

Last week it felt like the first week of spring. Everybody thinks 16 degrees is fair enough and acts like summer is there. I was cycling through Westerpark and got an instant summer feeling. I saw selfies filled with grass, a shiny funfair, people wearing sunglasses and a lot of sunblock (oh please, don’t exaggerate). So I did a little research, drew the map of Westerpark and created a data visualization by counting all the things I saw. All these things combined are… the first day of spring! If we believe The Guardian, this is the year of the bush. With this drawing I hope I can help you – all women – to make a choice for yourself: bald or bush?

A couple weeks ago I went to the theatre play 'De Verleiders', in Carré. The piece was played by the crème de la crème of The Netherlands’ actors guild. Five charming actors in expensive suits showed us how exciting the process of Netherlands’ biggest fraud case actually is (in case you didn’t know). They’re pointing to the audience, asking questions, screaming FUCK YOU for at least five minutes, closing deals, wearing sunglasses, going to jail, crying about losing so much money and just don’t know how to tell their wives, all in up-tempo. If it was up to me this play could go on for hours.
