Drawing the Times is a platform where committed graphic journalists and cartoonists worldwide publish work that informs, entertains, engages and challenges readers on global issues and local stories.
They can be background stories in comic form, reportages, live sketches, cartoons, infographics animations and more. These stories are the so-called Drawing the Times Originals, made by graphic journalists that are collaborating with the platform. Drawing the Times also republishes stories from other media, that they think are must reads.
Drawing the Times publishes one story per week. For each story they seek collaboration with third parties like newspapers and magazines, governmental and non-governmental organisations, schools and universities, festivals and museums.
Every now and then they publish a Special on a specific topic, like Climate Change and Human Rights. With a diversity of perspectives and personal styles, Drawing the Times shows what graphic journalism can accomplish.
Usually we don't show cartoons on Illustration Daily, and most of the work on Drawing the Times will probably be labeled 'cartoony', but because we like Drawing the Times as an initiative, as a platform and as a kindred spirit (we both try to show the visual interpretations of news), we really want to support them and we're therefore making an exception to our 'no-cartoon-rule'.
We will share some of our favourite Drawing the Times stories on Illustration Daily. Once a week, during July and August. We hope you will enjoy them!
