Lemmings 2015 - from a personal project I call »Mindshots«. From time to time I illustrate my thoughts by using this simple red, black and white style to get some ideas out of my head. The inspiration for each piece comes from my daily life while working, talking, watching a movie, and hanging out with friends, or while getting bored in the dentist’s waiting room. Some are socially critical, humorous, or just plain ridiculous.

When we talk about innovation the "shoot for the moon" attitude of companies like Google might not always be the best way to go. Sometimes a more down to earth form of innovation, taking smaller steps, might be a better option, even though it might seem boring.

Laya (34) lived in Raqqa when IS took over the city. She faced consequences of this invasion firsthand. She hardly ever left her house. She didn't wear a headscarf before but was now wearing completely covering burqas out of fear of ISIS. Fear because of the rumors about women who got arrested, fear caused by the increasing violence, by the time the soldiers of ISIS tell her off for speaking to male former clients of her, and fear caused by the hacked off heads that IS hangs on squares and forces people to watch. Eventually she managed to escape her hometown and she currently lives in a safer place. ––––– #Womenofsyria tells the stories of real Syrian women. Not refugees, but the ones that stayed behind. The project uses illustrations instead of photos mainly because the women are afraid of being exposed to the regime of Assad.

Personally i don't understand why selfiesticks have become common in our street scene and I even hate them a little bit. Maybe it would be better if they would only appear at night, high in the sky or in fairytales...

Article on the first performances of Brahms' Piano Concerto and how nobody applauded. The few people who started to clap where hissed by others. Nowadays in The Netherlands it seems to be compulsory to give a standing ovation for every classical performance, whatever its quality. In Brahms' day the composer was depicted in a newspaper cartoon with a red hedgehog by his side, because of his daily visits to a pub with this name.
