This image is part of a series called "Ghost Town". This project was based off of the South Wales town of Port Talbot and its steelworks, and deals with themes of dependency, community and a de-industrialising western world. The Port Talbot steelworks had been in danger of closing down for some time, and if it did there would be major repercussions for the many that work there. This project depicts a grim view of that potential future, depicting a fictional, vacant town based off of the real town of Port Talbot, with imagery based off of old mining towns that suffered after the mine closures during the 1980s. The project was named after a quote from Tony Taylor, a local Port Talbot councillor, which can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-35161054

In 2015, hundreds of thousands of refugees landed on Greece’s island shores. Many had perished at sea. Today, the international public has been lulled into believing that Greece’s refugee crisis has abated. In fact, it has become a permanent scourge blighting Europe’s soul and brewing future trouble. The island of Lesbos was, and remains, its epicenter. Some 2,500 years ago, Sappho of Lesbos wrote: 'Their heart grew cold - they let their wings down' To prevent that from happening to humanists across Europe, we need a new movement to campaign for refugees’ release from odious conditions and a swift asylum process. Beyond that, we need to end the policies that are contributing to their desperate flight. Yanis Varoufakis in Het Financieele Dagblad Saturday, 25 November, 2017
